At ASD Drive Ready, we are passionate about empowering individuals with ASD, ADHD, and/or severe driving anxiety to develop the confidence and skills needed to begin behind-the-wheel (BTW) driver education.
Our program uses a fully immersive, interactive virtual reality (VR) driving system, creating a safe and supportive learning environment.
Founded by Rich and Wendy Greene, pioneers in integrating VR technology into driver education, ASD Drive Ready brings years of expertise to help neurodiverse clients thrive. The Greenes first introduced VR simulation in their driver education program at Columbia River Driver Education in Oregon, where they partnered with the State of Oregon to demonstrate the transformative benefits of a "safe-to-fail" training environment.
While VR training proved valuable for all students, it became evident that it was especially beneficial for neurodiverse learners, including those with ASD, ADHD, and severe anxiety. The ability to practice repetitively in a calm, controlled, and non-judgmental setting allowed these students to build skills and confidence at their own pace.
Now based in Florida, the Greenes continue their mission to support neurodiverse drivers by offering specialized VR training at ASD Drive Ready. It's important to note that we are not a traditional driver education program. We do not provide classroom instruction or in-car training.
Instead, we bridge the gap between classroom education and BTW training for students who may not feel ready to step behind the wheel. For classroom instruction, we recommend Florida Virtual Academy, an excellent and cost-free option for most students. For BTW training, there are numerous public and private providers across the state.
Our program focuses on bringing essential driving concepts to life through VR, creating a safe, engaging, and personalized learning experience. By building confidence and mastery in this environment, we aim to empower students to transition to BTW training and begin their journey toward a lifetime of independent, safer driving.
